We got a late start on our Christmas preparations this year, due to the fact that we moved house and all! We moved into our cute little rental house on December 8th, and as soon as possible got to work on making it festive!

When we had finished putting all the ornaments on the tree and were getting ready to put the star on, there was a kerfuffle over who should be the one to do it. Avery and Brogan both wanted to do it, and were arguing about it, so I told them that they needed to come to a decision about who put the star on and who turned on the power. So this is how they had that serious discussion:

It was pretty cute!! Finally they came to the agreement that Brogan would put the star on the tree and Avery would turn it on.

I loved our colourful tree this year! I let the children have a lot of control over the ornaments, so there were clusters of ornaments here and bare patches there, but they had so much fun doing it that I didn’t want to rearrange them! I love it!

We also made the stable for our knitivity, and Avery carefully arranged all the figures inside. Then we put up our Nativity tree and started catching up with the numbered books. Avery read most of the books almost by herself this year, which was lovely. And the boys loved hanging them on the tree.

We went to our new church’s Christmas party and had a lovely meal and a nice time getting to know new people. Avery and Brogan were excited to see some of their new friends and to go up on the stage with the rest of the children to sing a couple of Christmas songs.

Goodbye Roanoke

Tonight will be our last night sleeping in our beautiful house, our home of the past 3.5 years, the first house we ever bought! When we bought this home in May 2009, Avery was 3, and Brogan was still just a baby. He climbed up steps for the first time the day we moved in :) This is the only home Oliver has ever known, and he will almost certainly remember nothing about it!

It will also be our last night sleeping in Roanoke, the place where Gabe and I first met and fell in love, and where we have lived since we got married 9.5 years ago. Roanoke has been my home for pretty much my entire adult life - I turned 20 seven days after I moved into my college dorm room at Roanoke College! It seems strange to think about that.

We have loved our home!! If the real computer was not in a box somewhere, I would post some of our "before" pictures of this house, because it was so ugly, and we have made it so beautiful :) We are excited about this next step in our lives, and I know it will be a good thing for our family, but there are certainly many things about Roanoke and our home here which we will miss xx

Goodbye Pittsfield Home.
Goodbye Roanoke.

Halloween 2012

We hosted a little party for the kids the weekend before Halloween this year, and it was super fun! Of course, I was so busy running the show that I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures until after the crafts, playing, treat-making, and dinner were all over!! So sad! So here are just a few pictures of the very last part of the party – the part where they got to eat the delicious chocolate and pretzel spider webs and white chocolate strawberry ghosts they made earlier :)

It was a super fun party, just our kids and a few of their close friends, and we all had a good time!

Oliver the Parrot Puppy

2012-10-30 001

Oliver was going to be a parrot to go along with the pirate/fairy theme, but it became clear that he did not want to be a parrot when I tried to put the costume on him before we left the house!!! SO he was a puppy instead :)
