It's finally happening! This week Oliver starting saying YES! Soon we won't have to guess by his tone of voice whether his "No!" means yes or no! :)
Oliver is taking his own sweet time with his talking, but he understands most of what you sy to him.
At long last, I think that Oliver has finished teething! At least until his two year molars, anyway. Of our three babies, Oliver struggled the most with teething. But he is done, and he is sleeping a little better at night again. At last!! No more getting up 2 or 3 times a night!! :)
Oliver really likes when I play "Round and round the garden" on his hand, and will do a short version of it on himself when he wants me to do it. It's adorable, especially the way he tickles himself at the end :)
Finally! In the first week of January, Oliver finally started to get a little more comfortable being left in the childwatch at the gym! Up until now, he has screamed nonstop whenever I've tried to leave him, and every single time someone had to come and find me because he would not stop crying!! But he is doing so much better now! It's very exciting :) As long as he has a bottle of milk, and someone to hold him when I leave (preferably Gretchen. He loves her!), he is fine! Hooray!
Oliver has been climbing up stairs at every opportunity! The red footstools we used to keep him off the stairs only worked for a few days, then he figured out how to climb over them. He loves to climb stairs! Oftentimes, he'll crawl all the way up stairs, and then sit precariously at the top whining to be brought down again, just so that he can climb right back up again!!
This has been a big week for Oliver! His first tooth poked through on Thursday, he has been getting on all fours and sort of crawling a little bit, and today he went from all fours to sitting all by himself! He is growing so fast!
6 month check up stats: 18lbs 2oz, 28.5 inches. He's a-growing! 4 shots, poor baby :( He's also coming right along in his physical development though! He's rolling from back to front every chance he gets, but he still gets stuck on his tummy sometimes. He's also sitting up for up to several minutes if I put him in a sitting position. We have also recently started him on some solid foods - pureed pears, then rice cereal, now oatmeal. He has been loving every minute of it :) This is a little boy who just seems to delight in (almost) every new sensation!
Oliver had his four month check up today. He now weighs 16lbs 3oz and is 26.5 inches long. He had two shots. He whined a bit after the first one, but then cried for a minute or two after the second :( But he cheered right back up and was smiling and sticking his tongue out at people again before we left :) He discovered his tongue a couple of days ago and has been sticking it out all the time :)
I am generally only having to get up to feed him once a night these days. On days that he has 3 naps he goes to bed at about 8:30pm, sleeps til about 3 or 4am, then sleeps til about 8:30am. On 2 nap days he goes to bed around 7pm with the other children, wakes up around 2am and then sleeps til around 7am. He is an adorable smiling, squealing, giggling, laughing little boy. He grabs toys now, and is transferring things from one hand to the other. He can lie on his tummy and hold his head up happily for several minutes, and has attempted to roll back over a couple of times, without success yet :) He is happy to sit up with support, but can only sit unassisted for a few seconds before toppling over :)
At his 2 month check up today Oliver weighed 10lbs 8oz and was 23 inches long. Still so little and sweet, but growing well :)
Gabe gave Oliver his first bottle today. I was worried that we may have left it too long and that it might therefore be a struggle. I should have known better! Everything else with this sweet boy has been easy, so why would he start being difficult now?!
Today was Oliver's 1 month check up. He weighed in at 9lbs 15 oz and measured 22 inches long. He is in the 50th percentile for weight and head circumference, and the 75th for height. His hematoma is completely gone, and the doctor says he's pretty much perfect :)
This evening after I had finished feeding and burping Oliver, I handed him to Gabe. He looked up at Gabe and his face lit up and he gave him a real, beautiful smile!
